Former director of Health Affairs in Eastern Province, Dr. Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Ali, revealed that the total issues related to medical errors in the Kingdom reached 2413 issues under study, he added that the number of new cases of the year 1434 AH reached 1069 issues, and the outcome of the eastern region is 156 cases and the new of it are 184 issues.
About total mortality issues in the Kingdom "AL Ali" explained that they amounted to 320 cases, including 167 case of condemnation, the Eastern region has 15 issue of condemnation, he estimated the number of medical court sessions of about 164 session at a rate of two per issue, and he considered the local numbers are lower than the global statistics for deaths and medical errors.
The words of "Ali" came during medical symposium organized by the Tuesday Cultural Forum last Tuesday, and carried the title: "the health sector and medical errors." And he proved that the medical error responsibility is completely on the doctor if the error was intentional or result of negligence, or ignorance of determinants and available powers to the doctor himself, or if he doesn't have a medical license from the responsible parties, or hastily act without taking the consent of the parent or the patient himself, In other cases, the result may be due to not doing his duty to treat patients.
"Al Ali" explained that: the most common cases which submitted to the Commission are concerning gynecology and obstetrics because of cases that result from using suction system at birth, particularly in remote places that cannot perform Caesarean operations in, which may lead to fractures and damage to the children's heads.
He stated that the conviction rate in cases submitted to the body was about 15%, suggesting that some of the causes of medical errors include similarity in names, or lack of accuracy of the diagnosis, and that some patients use names of other people to get free treatment.
